On the Edge of Dawn
(November 2016, Amsterdam)
On the Edge of Dawn drifts through the dreams and shadows of Maurice Maeterlinck’s poetry, set to music by Alexander Zemlinsky. This work reimagines Ophelia’s descent — not in life, but in the stillness that follows her drowning, as she drifts through a liminal space, suspended between memory and release.
In this version of her story, Ophelia is neither denied nor condemned, but reclaims the voice that was once silenced. The moment is paused, revisited, re-seen. Through song and stillness, something shifts — the weight begins to lift, and the grip of what held her starts to loosen.
What remains is but presence, drifting toward light.
