Songs of Mo(u)rning
(December 2018, Amsterdam)
Songs of Mo(u)rning explores the landscapes of grief through voice, memory, and presence. At its center is a young man called to recite the Kaddish for his father — a task for which he is unprepared, yet compelled.
As he spirals inward, the prayer becomes a guide through loss and disorientation. Created in collaboration with the youth choir from the International School of Amsterdam, the work honors vulnerability, listening, and the quiet turning toward remembrance.
This is not a finished story, but a living one — grief not as an end, but as a passage in which the voice becomes both anchor and rising light.
With Matthew Lynch (artistic director), Quinn Muller (performance), Adva Tas (soprano), Mirsa Adami (piano), Lucy Dee (assistant director), and the youth choir of the International School of Amsterdam conducted by Douglas Beam.
