Psyche
(November 2024, Haarlem)
Psyche is an immersive journey of voice, organ, and movement, shaped within and for the soaring acoustics of the Grote Bavo Kerk in Haarlem. The name comes from the ancient word for soul, breath, and butterfly — a hint of the liminal spaces where transformation moves through sound to stillness
Music by Hildegard von Bingen, Arvo Pärt, Górecki, and Britten forms the heart of the work. Psyche unfolds slowly and spaciously within the cathedral, inviting what is hidden to surface. Artists, both emerging and established, inhabit the space fully — belonging to it, breathing with it, becoming part of its resonance.
Psyche is an operatic installation — a meditative moment to enter, to listen, to breathe and softly turn inward.
With Matthew Lynch (artistic director), Adva Tas (soprano), Mirsa Adami (piano), Josien van der Tweel (choir direction), Joost Reijerse (organ), and the Hartkoor Haarlem choir.
